Story Of Esha

Esha is working as a part time Trainee in one of the IT Company in her early 30’s. Just like a regular modern female of this century, Esha has achieved everything that is deemed normal for a regular person. However, the one thing that sets her apart from regular ladies of her generation is that she is a Down syndrome (DS) person. This makes her life journey a success story.

Esha was born with Down syndrome to Ms. Achla Buch and Mr. Ravindra Buch. The parents are highly educated and possess progressive mindset. This attitude helped Esha attain proper attention and care that is required for a person with DS. They made sure that Esha gets all the available teachings and trainings so that she is able to successfully grow up to be an independent person. Esha was not able to speak till she reached 5 years old. She would try to communicate with her own developed sign language and made sure that her family knew what she wanted and what she would like to do. This clearly showed a sign of high intelligence and a steadfast determination that she is not to be taken lightly.

 This path was challenging with lots of obstacles.     Her mother wanted her children to have good education and values. One day she visited Dhingli Ghar BAL Vikas Kendra Ahmadabad which is a reputed children’s education institution from this institute Esha learn her first lesson of Alphabet Esha had to change 7 schools within a span of 12 weeks but the parent’s determination was relentless.

Esha attained regular school (Urmi School) and received normal education. She was able to successfully clear her Class 10th and 12th board examinations with regular children. She was able to understand and answer the complex nature of mathematics and science problems and logically deduce the correct solution. Her efforts were lauded by local community and she became the face of her school making her teachers proud. Esha has also travelled around the world and has been able to effectively communicate with native English speakers without any hesitation despite, her medium of instruction as well her as mother tongue is Gujarati. Because her knowledge of sign language works its becomes useful to her in commute with people

While she was studying, she also participated in Special Olympics and Khel mahkhumb events she took part in Badminton, Volleyball , Athletics events, she was part of the India Women`s National Cricket Team that participated in Cricket World Cup. Her team lost against Pakistan Women`s National Cricket Team. Apart from cricket, she has also participated in various track and field events and won multiple awards at District and State level. This clearly shows her all round personality of being athletic as well as educated.

Despite being Esha an ordinary child yet she was extraordinary and despite being extraordinary she was ordinary her mother made her take part in different competitions be it Painting, Garba (Gujarati folk dance) or Bollywood dance. She practiced wholeheartedly for all the activities and even made improvements in her mistake. That is why she not only won many prizes in various competitions but also gained confidence from her success and so she sprinted in the direction of progress

Esha’s mother got detected cancer while she was appearing for her class 10th board examination. Once, she cleared her exams, she became the pillar of support of her parents and was always ready to do her part in making sure her mother is taken care of. By her own learning, she picked the nuances of running the household and making important decisions of managing the regular household chores, while her mother remained bed ridden. She took care of her mother in her sickness just as a kind-hearted nurse would do. She is currently employed at an American IT firm as a basic Data Entry Trainee. She is regularly able to juggle the dual responsibility of job and taking care of her family. After her mother’s passing away in middle of 2019, she has been a strong emotional support for her family and made sure that her father is always taken care of. Currently, she stays with her father and manages the house without any supervision.

But above all her accomplishments –which include an award for the most self – educated DS individual by the Down Syndrome Federation of India –her father is most impressed by her unique ability to connect with people she remembers each and every Birthday of her vast extended family members and wish them at 12 midnight on the dot. Her family is proud of what she has become and constantly gets inspired from her determination to succeed despite facing multiple challenges.
