My son Om, who is my soulmate, is a 30 years young, completely independent individual. He is the most positive being I have ever come across. I have never heard him say a No to anything. He is always open to try new things & is never scared.
The journey with Om started 30 years back. It was a challenge to make our special child fit in a competitive world. Om has a sister , Neha, who is elder to him by 3 years. She was & still is a driving force for him. They both get along very well & he learns many things from her. Since she had loved him immensely&accepted as he was, all her friends also are friends with Om.
Om did his initial schooling from a school for children with learning disabilities. But soon he was moved to a mainstream school. He later did his vocational training while chasing his love for Table Tennis.
Om has been a National Level TT champion since the past many years. He has won umpteen Gold &Silver medals.
Om is a diehard fan of Bollywood & specially Shahrukh Khan is his favourite.
I wanted Om to travel independently by public transport. It was indeed a huge challenge to make him understand the bus routes, roads, crossings & facing the society at large on his own. But that could be achieved by sheer perseverance.
His regular routine includes meditation, exercising, helping me in household chores & then going for his job.
Om is now earning & trying to be financially independent, working for an NGO called Sparsh Foundation.
Om is too busy enjoying his life to leave any room for negativity, even in this present Pandemic situation.
